by Charles Prosper “The Street Fighting Sifu”

Do you feel that anger is a good or a bad emotion in a street fighting situation? Do you feel that it is useful or rather that it is excessive and unnecessary, sort of a lingering remnant of a still evolving human being whose spiritual destiny is to be devoid of any and all emotions that are counter to the ultimate goal of peace, oneness with the universe and all that is? What a bunch of crock! Anger, when properly used is good, very good, and is definitely part of the evolutionary plan of the human species.

When it comes to self defense and the control of fear, anger is absolutely necessary!

There are 7 little known facts about the importance of anger as the ultimate antidote to fear the restoration of personal dignity.

The 7 Little Known Facts About The Importance of Anger:

Fact #1 – Anger, When Used Properly, Can Motivate You - Let’s just step out of the arena of martial arts and self defense for a moment, and look at how anger can positively impact a person who procrastinates on important things that involve improving the quality of life for himself and his family.

Someone wants to start a business and live his dream, but procrastination and fear of failure has stopped him from taking action. If that person would only look at the fact of how a stupid fear is robbing and harming his future and well-being, he would begin to feel angry.

What if that person were to simply take a different attitude and say, “Enough is enough! I am sick of tired of letting procrastination push me around. I am going to take action and keep taking action, no matter how many setbacks I have until I reach my goal. I not going to let any stupid fear push me around any more!”

Fact #2 – Anger, When Channeled Properly, Gives You Courage - When you see an injustice, when you see someone’s rights being violated, when you see the weak and the innocent person being abused or taken advantage of, the correct respond to injustice is indignation — or if you like, just plain anger.

Fact #3 – Jesus Used Anger When He Chased The Money Changers Out Of The Temple – I am no biblical scholar, but I went to school, and I learned how to read and think for myself, and if you want to check it out for yourself, just go to Matthew 21:12. Jesus didn’t whimper and plead for those who were disrespecting and violating the sanctity of his house of worship to ple-e-e-a-s-s-e leave. No, he went into berserk mode and started throwing furniture around, pulling stools and seats from under those who were perched and sitting down on stools selling doves in cages. No, Jesus didn’t get passive – he got “pissed” !

Some biblical scholars say that this was holy anger. Fine. I’m okay with that. And I don’t care if you also call it a holy ass-whipping! Jesus used anger positively – plain and simple. So, deal with it!

Fact #4 – Anger Is Like Fire – It Is Really Neither Good Nor Bad - Fire is neither good nor bad, but rather it is a powerful energy that can be defined only by how you use it. Fire can be used to warm a house or burn down an entire housing complex.

Anger can be used to defend your wife or kids, or you can allow anger to take you over to where, out of anger, you are beating your wife or kids. Both fire and anger are powerful forces and likewise if they are used and channeled for worthy and just purposes, they become absolute forces for good.

Fact #5 – Anger Is God’s Gift To You For Self Preservation - Anger is nature’s instinctual self preservation survival mechanism. Try to take the eggs out of a mother robin’s nest while she is watching, and see what happens to you. What makes you think that God would give this instinctual anger survival and protective mechanism to a robin and other animals and not to man who is made in God’s own image and likeness?

Fact #6 – Anger Restores Your Dignity – If you’re letting yourself be abused in any situation or relationship, then you have forgotten how to get angry.

Fact #7- Not All Anger Is Equal - There is controlled and channeled anger, and there is blind and uncontrollable rage where you harm even the people that you say you love. When anger is used to protect yourself and your loved ones, when it is used to restore your dignity and to find the courage to stand up to an oppressor or an injustice, then what else can anger be called but good and beautiful and blessed!
