In a real street fight, the longer you spend defending yourself, the more likely the fight will go to the ground, that is, you may get into a clinch or grappling situation, and both of you will find yourselves scuffling on the pavement or the sidewalk.
Andy Curtiss demonstrates a cool move of a combination round house kick, follow by a takedown and head-stomp.

Today’s Topic: The 4 Secrets of Ground Fighting. Combat fighting expert and former green beret, Andy Curtiss reveals to us how to survive ground fighting.

Charles: So, you’re going to take us tonight into explaining the four principles or the four secrets of ground fighting – when the fight goes to the ground.

Andy: Yeah, basically I have 4 principles that I’d like to use when I’m teaching my people how to ground fight.

The First One is The Ground Is Bad – You don’t want to be on the ground in the street or in a reality combat situation. The minute you go to the ground, you lose focus of all periphery. So, basically, you’re focused on the ground, and anything can happen. You can have multiple attackers come out and put the boots to you. They’ll stomp your skull into the ground. And you won’t see it coming, and there’s nothing you can do about it. So, the first principle is that the ground is bad.

The Second Principle is You Want To Keep Your Center of Gravity Below That of Your Opponent - No matter what it is. If you’ re on the ground or standing, you always want to keep your center of gravity, either over top of theirs or slightly lower, so that you can control their center.

The Third Principle is that Space Is Bad - You don’t want any space between you and the person that you’re fighting. The more space that they have, the more stuff they can do to you. And if you’re in control, space is bad. You want to suck up all that space, and just control every bit of it.

The Fourth Point is Anything Goes - This is the street. Anything goes. Whether you’re standing up or on the ground, groin shots are good. Biting is good. Bite the groin if you have to. Poke him in the eyeballs. It doesn’t matter. If you’ve got a pen, pull the pen out of your pocket. Stab him in the face with it or in the throat. Anything goes. As long as you remember anything goes, I think you’ll be alright.

Charles: Excellent. Well, there we have again, expert advice, real-world experience. Andy, thank you very much.

Andy: Thank you.

Your comments and feedback is welcomed. And be sure to share this post with just one friend. Thanks.
