Jesus Was A Street Fighter

by admin on Jun.30, 2009, under Famous Street Fighters

Showing clear principles of street fighting, Jesus throws money-changers out of the temple.

Today’s Topic:  Jesus Was A Street Fighter

by Charles Prosper “The Street Fighting Sifu”

And it read in Matthew 21:12, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves.”

Now that’s what happened plain and simple. You can read and look it up for yourself. Upon closer examination, we can see very clear and effective principles of street self defense.

Principle # 1 – Jesus Got Angry – Jesus did not remain calm and go into some spacey Zen state of mind to calm himself down before he approached the money changers in the temple. He got “pissed”! This is one of the first principles to overcome any fear and hesitation of street confrontation. You must actually allow yourself to become angry which is one of the greatest antidotes to fear and timidity.

Principle #2 – Jesus Attacked First – Once it was clear that the line was crossed and there was a severe violation of respect for the sanctity of the temple, all negotiations were off! Jesus immediately went in there and took the offensive, overthrowing tables, and jerking seats from under creeps who were trying to sell doves in cages.

Principle #3 – Jesus Used His Environment – He threw tables around, pulled seats out from under their asses. Jesus went into berserk mode on them fools! And once he started his attack, he continued attacking until he had thrown multiple offenders out of the temple.

Now some people say that Jesus had holy anger. Fine. I’m down with that. We might even say that he gave them all a holy ass-whipping. Well, I feel that a holy ass-whipping, when necessary, is better than no ass-whipping at all. The message here is very clear, and that is, that there is a time for peace, and there is a time to fight. When Jesus had to fight, he fought.  Jesus was a street fighter, and if that was good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for me as well.

The 4 Secrets of Ground Fighting Revealed – Interview with Andy Curtiss

by admin on Jun.30, 2009, under Andy Curtiss (Interviews)

Andy Curtiss demonstrates a cool move of a combination round house kick, follow by a takedown and head-stomp.

Today’s Topic:  The 4 Secrets of Ground Fighting.  Combat fighting expert and former green beret, Andy Curtiss reveals to us how to survive ground fighting.

Charles: So, you’re going to take us tonight into explaining the four principles or the four secrets of ground fighting – when the fight goes to the ground.

Andy: Yeah, basically I have 4 principles that I’d like to use when I’m teaching my people how to ground fight.

The First One is The Ground Is Bad – You don’t want to be on the ground in the street or in a reality combat situation. The minute you go to the ground, you lose focus of all periphery. So, basically, you’re focused on the ground, and anything can happen. You can have multiple attackers come out and put the boots to you. They’ll stomp your skull into the ground. And you won’t see it coming, and there’s nothing you can do about it. So, the first principle is that the ground is bad.

The Second Principle is You Want To Keep Your Center of Gravity Below That of Your Opponent - No matter what it is. If you’ re on the ground or standing, you always want to keep your center of gravity, either over top of theirs or slightly lower, so that you can control their center.

The Third Principle is that Space Is Bad - You don’t want any space between you and the person that you’re fighting. The more space that they have, the more stuff they can do to you. And if you’re in control, space is bad. You want to suck up all that space, and just control every bit of it.

The Fourth Point is Anything Goes - This is the street. Anything goes. Whether you’re standing up or on the ground, groin shots are good. Biting is good. Bite the groin if you have to. Poke him in the eyeballs. It doesn’t matter. If you’ve got a pen, pull the pen out of your pocket. Stab him in the face with it or in the throat. Anything goes. As long as you remember anything goes, I think you’ll be alright.

Charles: Excellent. Well, there we have again, expert advice, real-world experience. Andy, thank you very much.

Andy: Thank you.

The 3 Things You Must Do To Survive A Gun Attack

by admin on Jun.29, 2009, under Gun Disarm

Master David D’Antonio shows a quick and slick gun disarm through a car door.

Today’s Topic:  The 3 Things You Must Do To Survive A Gun Attack

by Charles Prosper “The Street Fighting Sifu”

On January 17, 1998, I got the call no father ever wants to get. “Hey man, it’s Bern,” my brother calls me, but with somber tones, so frightening, that I didn’t even want to ask him ‘What’s up?’

“Hey, Bern,” I say, “It’s a surprise getting a call from you so early in the morning.” An audible sigh over the phone. Followed by a long silence.

“David is dead. He was shot to death by one of 3 guys who broke into his apartment.”

At 29, my only son, a Navy veteran of two tours of duty to Iraq comes home on leave and is gunned down by 3 thugs with a long criminal record.

Gun violence is real, and there are 3 things you must know to give yourself a chance to survive.

The 3 Things You Must Do To Survive A Gun Attack:

#1 Thing You Must Know To Survive A Gun Attack – Develop Situational Awareness - Don’t walk alone in that alley late at night in a strange neighborhood when you see a suspicious individual standing in a corner behind a trash bind. Avoid situations that don’t feel right. Trust your gut.

#2 Thing You Must Know To Survive A Gun Attack – Avoid Any Unnecessary Confrontations With Anyone With A Gun Pointed At You - If they want your wallet–give it to them. If they want your watch–give it to them. There is no material thing worth keeping that is worth giving your life.

#3 Thing You Must Know To Survive A Gun Attack – Defend Yourself Only If You Know He Is About To Pull The Trigger – You have given your wallet and your watch, yet he still won’t go. You can sense from that nervous crazed look in his eyes, the rapid change in his speech and the quick and agitated sound of his breathing that now he wants to kill you – then you act – and act quickly.

While your hands begin moving up in the air in the typical palms out “I-surrender” or the “I-don’t-want-any-trouble” position – with any one of your hands–you hit the gun-hand either at the wrist or hand area, hitting it to the outside, lean your body to the side to make sure you are not in the line of fire. The gun will discharge at this point, so be ready to hear the crack or the pop of his weapon.

You must now quickly grab his gun hand at the hand or wrist–with both of your hands–and you bite. You bite the fleshy part of his thumb. You bite the fingers. You bite. You bite. You bite. You bite on that hand like a hungry pirana until he drops the weapon, as well you can slam the hand holding the weapon against your knee, a table or wall to release the gun from your attacker’s hand.

Now you must continue your vicious attack. You knee-stomp his knee at a 45º angle. You are trying to break the knee, and if you do the stomp properly, you shouldn’t have any trouble breaking it.

You elbow to the side of his face using the tip of your elbow aiming for the tip of his chin in a effort to twist his head in the opposite direction creating the high probability of a knock out blow. (This is close-range combat here.)

Nevertheless, you continue your attack. You grab him by the ears–you head butt hard into the bridge of the nose. You bite into the cheeks. You growl into his ear. (Psychologically, this will totally freak him out!)

You continue your attack unleashing all of the fury of hell itself–until he goes down! When he hits the ground, stomp the ankles and the knees various times so that he cannot get up. You stomp the head until he is unconscious. Now pick up your cell phone and call the police. End of story.

The Street Fighting 7 Secrets To Channel Anger As The Ultimate Antidote To Fear

by admin on Jun.29, 2009, under Fear Management

Master street fighting instructor, Norm Bettencourt, gives us tips on how to trigger your anger for use in a self defense situation

Today’s Topic:  How To Channel Anger to Control Fear In A Real Street Fight

by Charles Prosper “The Street Fighting Sifu”

Do you feel that anger is a good or a bad emotion in a street fighting situation? Do you feel that it is useful or rather that it is excessive and unnecessary, sort of a lingering remnant of a still evolving human being whose spiritual destiny is to be devoid of any and all emotions that are counter to the ultimate goal of peace, oneness with the universe and all that is? What a bunch of crock! Anger, when properly used is good, very good, and is definitely part of the evolutionary plan of the human species.

When it comes to self defense and the control of fear, anger is absolutely necessary!

There are 7 little known facts about the importance of anger as the ultimate antidote to fear the restoration of personal dignity.

The 7 Little Known Facts About The Importance of Anger:

Fact #1 – Anger, When Used Properly, Can Motivate You - Let’s just step out of the arena of martial arts and self defense for a moment, and look at how anger can positively impact a person who procrastinates on important things that involve improving the quality of life for himself and his family.

Someone wants to start a business and live his dream, but procrastination and fear of failure has stopped him from taking action. If that person would only look at the fact of how a stupid fear is robbing and harming his future and well-being, he would begin to feel angry.

What if that person were to simply take a different attitude and say, “Enough is enough! I am sick of tired of letting procrastination push me around. I am going to take action and keep taking action, no matter how many setbacks I have until I reach my goal. I not going to let any stupid fear push me around any more!”

Fact #2 – Anger, When Channeled Properly, Gives You Courage - When you see an injustice, when you see someone’s rights being violated, when you see the weak and the innocent person being abused or taken advantage of, the correct respond to injustice is indignation — or if you like, just plain anger.

Fact #3 – Jesus Used Anger When He Chased The Money Changers Out Of The Temple – I am no biblical scholar, but I went to school, and I learned how to read and think for myself, and if you want to check it out for yourself, just go to Matthew 21:12. Jesus didn’t whimper and plead for those who were disrespecting and violating the sanctity of his house of worship to ple-e-e-a-s-s-e leave. No, he went into berserk mode and started throwing furniture around, pulling stools and seats from under those who were perched and sitting down on stools selling doves in cages. No, Jesus didn’t get passive – he got “pissed” !

Some biblical scholars say that this was holy anger. Fine. I’m okay with that. And I don’t care if you also call it a holy ass-whipping! Jesus used anger positively – plain and simple. So, deal with it!

Fact #4 – Anger Is Like Fire – It Is Really Neither Good Nor Bad - Fire is neither good nor bad, but rather it is a powerful energy that can be defined only by how you use it. Fire can be used to warm a house or burn down an entire housing complex.

Anger can be used to defend your wife or kids, or you can allow anger to take you over to where, out of anger, you are beating your wife or kids. Both fire and anger are powerful forces and likewise if they are used and channeled for worthy and just purposes, they become absolute forces for good.

Fact #5 – Anger Is God’s Gift To You For Self Preservation - Anger is nature’s instinctual self preservation survival mechanism. Try to take the eggs out of a mother robin’s nest while she is watching, and see what happens to you. What makes you think that God would give this instinctual anger survival and protective mechanism to a robin and other animals and not to man who is made in God’s own image and likeness?

Fact #6 – Anger Restores Your Dignity – If you’re letting yourself be abused in any situation or relationship, then you have forgotten how to get angry.

Fact #7- Not All Anger Is Equal - There is controlled and channeled anger, and there is blind and uncontrollable rage where you harm even the people that you say you love. When anger is used to protect yourself and your loved ones, when it is used to restore your dignity and to find the courage to stand up to an oppressor or an injustice, then what else can anger be called but good and beautiful and blessed!

Please leave your comment.  It is most appreciated.

Street Fighting Secrets – The 4 Best Targets for A First-Strike Attack – Christopher “Bob” Roberts

by admin on Jun.27, 2009, under Christopher "Bob" Roberts (Interviews)

An effective street fighting move for a police officer who needs to control an aggressor who is attacking his partner or trying to go for his partner’s gun is shown here in this “Martial Art Minute” by one of our fighting faculty, Christopher “Bob” Roberts.

Our Topic for Today:  The 4 Best Targets for A First-Strike Attack

Street fighting secrets are given by no one more skilled the reality-based fighting instructor and part-time bouncer, Christopher “Bob” Roberts.

Charles: Now our subject  in this interview post is on the 4 best targets for the first strike.  What are those 4 best targets that you can tell us about and can you go over them one-by-one for us?

Bob:  Yes.  Yes.  I can do that.

The Number One Target Is Probably The Nose

It doesn’t matter how strong, how much muscle, how much fat someone has, the nose is always the thing to attack, and if you attack high enough on the nose, you’ll cause blood to go into the sinus passages which will interfere with breathing and eyesight.

Charles: Humm.  Excellent.  And which would be the second best target for the first strike?

Bob:

The Second Best Target Is The Windpipe

The second best target is the windpipe because you can strike it, or you can grab it and close it off, and if you grab it, you can use it to control a person.  And with the windpipe, if you do strike the windpipe, the person will immediately start coughing and become unable to continue fighting.

Charles: Wow!  And what would be the third best target to strike?

Bob:

The Third Best Target Would Be The Eyes
It’s not as applicable to strike as a lot of people think and a lot of people teach.  If you could just lay your hands anywhere on someone’s face, you can find his eyes, and once you lay your fingers on his eyes, you can use that to push and pull him anywhere you want or to set him up for other strikes.

Charles: Wow!  And what would be the fourth best target for the first strike?

Bob:

The Fourth Best Target Would Be The Point of The Jaw
The point of the jaw is basically the lever or the button to use to hit, to turn the person’s head, shake around his brain and cause a knockout.  The reason why I didn’t put the jaw higher on this list is that is someone is extremely strong in the neck area, you might have more problems in knocking him out, but it is still definitely one of the four best strikes and the easiest way to knock somebody out.

Charles: Wow!  Thank you so much, Bob.  This has really been an eye-opener for the four best targets for the first strike.

Please leave me your comments.  Let me know that I am reaching and helping someone.  Thanks.

3 Reasons Why Attempting A Ground Take-Down Is A Bad Move in a Street Fight

by admin on Jun.26, 2009, under Ground Fighting Moves

Our “Martial Art Minute” of today, shows David D’ Antonio counter a shoot.

Today’s Post Topic:  Ground Fighting

Can we once and for all separate the popular from the practical when it comes to street fighting? Can we understand that what we see in a sports oriented environment of a Mixed Martial Arts match does not necessarily equate to something that we would want to incorporate as a regular part of our reality-based street fighting regime? Yes, I know that it is very trendy by today’s popular sports fighting standards to want to take an opponent to the ground.

But Let Us First Define “Ground”

“Ground” in the Mixed Martial Arts Perspective is a flat canvas floor on which you can easily fall flat on your back – even with someone falling directly on top of you without necessarily causing you serious bodily damage.

“Ground” in the Street Fighting Perspective can be a multitude of hard, rocky and ruff surfaces that will almost always cause you bodily damage if you fall flat on your back, and especially if some big, heavy, angry, ugly, muscular guy falls on top of you. The “ground” surfaces can include rock, gravel, asphalt, shells and even broken glass. These are all dangerous surfaces to fall on if you can at all avoid them.

The 3 Reasons Why Attempting A Ground Take-Down Is A Bad Move in a Street Fight

Reason #1 – Once On The Ground, You Have Lost Your Peripheral Vision - When fighting on the ground, you can’t see what’s behind you or to the side of you: moving cars, objects, the attacker’s knife or other weapons.

Reason #2 – Hitting The Ground Is Hard And Dangerous - As alluded to above, the varied surfaces of ground outside on the street become, when you fall flat on it, a type of silent and unintentional weapon that appears to take on a life of its own “coming up to strike you” on your opponent’s behalf. You don’t want hard surfaces slamming against your back or your head in a fight.

Reason #3 – When On The Ground, Your Head Can Be Stomped To Death By Your Attacker’s Friends Who Appear To Come Out Of Nowhere - When you are busy occupying yourself with an opponent on the ground, you have definitely put yourself in harms way for any of your attacker’s friends who may show up out of what appears to be nowhere to come to his aide and finish you off.

So, The Rule Is Simple: Avoid Going To The Ground, and if you fall to the ground for any reason, make it to your feet as fast as possible and fight on your feet as you were meant to be doing.

Please leave me your comments.  Without your feedback, I am just writing to myself.  Thanks.

Secrets of Knife Fighting Self Protection with Andy Curtiss (former Green Beret)

by admin on Jun.25, 2009, under Knife Counters Self Defense

Here master Andy Curtiss shows a counter and escape from a knife lunge.

Here is a very revealing interview that I had with Andy Curtiss on the secrets of knife self protection.

Charles Prosper: Andy, how are you tonight?  Now, in this interview, you are going to take us into the world of knife self defense.  And I think you’re going to give us 5 secrets of knife self defense.  So, take it away, Andy.

Andy Curtiss: Yeah, basically what I have for you are the 5 Principles of Knife Combat.

Charles Prosper: Okay.

Andy Curtiss:

Principle Number 1 – Expect To Get Cut - Basically, whenever you’re encountering anybody with an edged weapon, you have to expect to get cut. That will help you gain the mental edge in the event that you do get cut because you will, and it also takes the mental edge away from your opponent.

I like to bring up the term “shock” because the first time you get cut, the first time people see blood, they go into a state of shock.  And you know, in trauma, we always that shock kills.  When you’re hard-wiring yourself to expect the worst, you kind of take that shock factor out.

Charles Prosper: Wow.

Andy Curtiss:

Principle Number 2 – De-fang The Serpent - When I talk about de-fanging the serpent, what I’m talking about is actually is about disarming your opponent.  Everyone knows that the knife is nothing more than an extension of the hand – the empty hand.  And basically, I like to look at the limb or the arm as that of kind of a snake, and the knife being kind of like the fang.  So, once you expect to get cut, then right away the first thing you should be looking for is a way to either escape or de-fang that serpent.

Principle Number 3 – Time Is Of The Essence - Whenever you’re dealing with edged-weapon combat, the longer that your are in the situation, the more chances your have of being cut open and being bled out.  So, time is of the essence.  You have to act quickly.

Principle Number 4 – Control - You have to control yourself.  You have to control the situation.  You have to control the attacker.  Or any one of those in any order, but you got to have control.

Principle Number 5 – It All Boils Down To Survival - It doesn’t have to look pretty.  It hasn’t got to be fancy.  The bottom line is that at the end of the day, you’re coming home for dinner and you’re breathing because you did your job.

Charles Prosper: Wow.  So, that really takes it down to basics, and we can really see exactly how to do the five principles of knife self defense.  Thank you again, Andy.

Andy Curtiss: Thank you.

How to Use Common House Keys As Quick And Effective Self Defense Weapon

by admin on Jun.24, 2009, under Improvised Weapons

Here I demonstrate for you how to use house or car keys for self defense

I heard or read once that the simplest truths are often the greatest. No less the case is what I will reveal to you in this article. I will show you how to take your everyday car key or house key and turn it into a quick and expedient weapon.

The key to using the house key for weapons’ self defense is in knowing how to hold it and where to strike with it when using it as an instrument of self protection. When I say house key, I say this generically for it can be also a car key or a garage key, as long as it is made of metal and as long as it is pointy.

Let me go into detail now of the how-to’s of using house keys as weapons.

How NOT To Hold Keys For Self Defense

  • There is an erroneous idea when the suggestion of using and striking with keys in a self protection situation that you should grab hold of the key between your fingers and make a fist, that is, the key juts out between your index and middle fingers as though you were simulating an old-fashioned pair of brass knuckles. This is definitely NOT the way to hold the key to strike.
  • Should you try to strike while making a fist, you stand to seriously injure you hand because once you strike your target, especially if you strike any of the bony areas of your attacker, there is a great chance that you will push the butt of the key back into the fleshy part of your hand, thus making it very easy for your attacker to finish you off because now you are trying to defend yourself with only one hand.

How To CORRECTLY Hold Keys For Self Defense

  • There is only one safe way to hold a key for use in self protection and that is to hold it the same way that you hold the key when you to open a door, that is, hold it between your index finger and your thumb.

How To Choose The Correct Targets To Hit With Keys For Self Defense

  • True reality-based self defense is more about selecting the correct target rather than picking the fanciest technique. Aim always for the soft and easy-to-damage parts of the body such as the eyes or the throat of the attacker.

When To Ready And Take Out Your Keys

  • When you get off your car on a strange street
  • When you hear footsteps behind you
  • When approaching suspicious looking characters ahead of you and you can’t turn back around

Practice Drawing And Stabbing With Your Key

  • Get into the habit of practicing periodically throughout the day how you would take out your keys and how you would make the quick jabbing and stabbing movement in the event of a street attack on you. Better yet – develop the habit of having your keys out in and your hands as you walk – especially in suspicious and unfamiliar areas.

Be aware. Be safe. And be ready.

Secrets Of Ground Fighting – Why You Should Bite When You Fight – Norm Bettencourt

by admin on Jun.24, 2009, under Norm Bettencourt (Interviews)

Here Norm Bettencourt is seen in action, a.k.a  “The Cannibal”.

This is an eye-opening interview with sensei Norm Bettencourt, reality-based street fighter, on the fascinating subject of biting as a defensive and offensive move.

Charles: I’m interviewing today, Norm Bettencourt, reality-based street fighting instructor who’s going to talk about a subject that most martial artists and so-called street fighters mostly avoid which is why you should bite when you fight. And so, first of all, Norm, tell us about yourself and give us a little bit of background about who you are.

Norm: Well, I’m a black belt and I run the only scenario based self defense training school that I know of right now, so that half of my training center is set up as a back alley and the other half has an apartment setting, and I teach people how to fight in real-world situations. I also have 15 years of experience working in the security industry, everything from bouncing to bodyguarding to doing regular security work.

Charles : Okay, here comes the big question: Why should one bite when they fight? Can you give us some reasons why, some tips why or secrets why?

Norm: For sure.

First Of All – Biting Is Primal – It is so barbaric that what happens is is that it causes a psychological response in your attacker. You see, what happens when you bite him is that he begins to get freaked out mentally. Why? Because he’s not use to that kind of thing. For him, he’s expecting fists and feet in that fight. When you bite, it changes the whole mindset of that fight that is going on.

The Second One – Biting Can Be Done From Pretty Much Any Position – All you have to do is sink you teeth into exposed skin, clamp down nice and hard, and you’re going to bite like a dog, and you’re going to tear that flesh. You can either tug at it. You can either shake your head, and rip that flesh off–any of these ways that you choose will always be an effective technique.

The Third Reason Why You Should Bite - It Works On Anyone, Regardless Of Their Size – You don’t have the variable that this may or may not work. It always works! It doesn’t matter if the guy is 350 pounds, you bite his finger off. You bite his cheek off or ear off, you get the same response. He lets go. He gets freaked out. You then have the fight completely in your control. And you can take him out.

Charles : Wow! Now that we understand that, if we have to, we will be doing much more biting and a lot more winning from here on out. Thanks so much for this, Norm.

Norm: You bet.

Self Defense Weapons By Using Common Everyday Object – An Interview with David D’Antonio

by admin on Jun.22, 2009, under David D'Antonio (Interviews)

Master David D’Antonio demonstrates weaponry “magic” with a bus pass.

Street fighter extraordinaire, modern-day ninjutsu expert, David D’Antonio gave me this fascinating interview explaining his very creative use and perspective of turning everyday objects into expedient weapons.  Let’s hear what the master has to say.

Charles: Now, David, I know you personally and I know that you are very good with improvising with everyday objects and turning them into lethal weapons. So, we want you to bring us into your world of ninjutsu and some of its secrets of what everyday objects can be used as expedient weapons. Can you take us into that world and tell us what can be done?

David: Absolutely, and I’ll be as brief as possible. We have to first of all realize that the whole concept of the ninja was to be unconventional in their tactics of warfare. With that in mind, we have to see and view everything around us as expedient weapons as an improvised weapon.

The First Thing We Can Use Are Coins In The Pocket - that we can toss into our opponent’s face.

The Second Thing We Can Use Are Pens And Pencils - everyday objects as tools to stab the face and gouge with, or to use it as joint locking tools. Shirts, Towels, things of that nature, we can use as trapping tools and weapons with which an attacker can be choked. So really view everything around you: Newspapers , Pens , Pencils , Coins , your Cell Phone , your Wallet , Hair clips . It all a weapon – if you think in an unconventional warfare manner.

Charles: In other words, anything you can pick up can be used as a weapon?

David: Everything you can pick up can be a weapon.

Charles: Wow. Wow. There we have it. David, it’s been another interesting interview, and we look forward to having you on with us again.

David: Thank you, Charles.
